How much wood do you actually need?
A cord is the full stack. Four feet high, four feet deep, eight feet long. A rick is one row off the front of that stack, so the depth is however long the pieces are cut. Three ricks is roughly a cord, which is why ours is $200 against $400.
How long it lasts is the part nobody tells you, because it depends on how you burn it. A fireplace you light at weekends goes through far less than a stove you keep going most evenings. If this is your first winter with a stove, start with a rick and watch how fast it goes down. You can always order more, and we would rather you did that than talked you into a cord you cannot store.
Ordering for the whole season, or for more than one house? Say so when you call. Several cords at once is a different conversation and a different price.
Seasoned, not green
Green wood is cheaper for a reason.
Wood cut this year is full of water. It hisses, it smokes, it throws far less heat, and it lines your chimney with creosote, which is what chimney fires are made of.
Seasoned wood has been split and stacked long enough to dry out. You can see it on the cut end. Cracks running out from the centre, ends gone grey, and a sharp knock rather than a dull thud when two pieces are banged together. It is also lighter than it looks.
Check that on any wood you buy, from us or from anyone. It is the difference between a fire that heats the room and one you spend the evening nursing. Five customers mention the wood quality in their Google reviews, and three mention the stacking by name.

Three separate reviewers mention our wood stacking by name, so it comes up often enough that customers write about it unprompted. We stack it where you want it, not in a heap on the drive.
Call and ask what we have in, because it moves with what we are taking down. Mesquite and post oak are the two best burning woods in this part of Texas, and both are excellent for cooking.
It moves with the species, whether the wood is seasoned, and whether delivery and stacking are in the price. Ours is $400 a cord, seasoned, delivered and stacked. When you compare prices, check those three things on each one, because they are what the number is made of.
Ask three things before you compare any two numbers. Is the wood seasoned, or was it cut this year? Does the price include delivery, and out how far? And does somebody stack it where you want it, or does it get tipped in a heap on your drive and become your afternoon? A cheaper number with different answers to those is not the same product.
